Weddings in Paradise

Ras Nungwi is an ideal beach wedding venue and we take great pleasure in arranging small, unique and intimate occasions that will provide a lifetime of amazing memories. With the turquoise Indian Ocean and white-sanded beach providing a stunning natural backdrop, our tropical paradise is perfect for wedding parties ranging from 2 to 30 people.

Whether it’s a religious or civil ceremony, or a renewal of vows, we have the wedding planning expertise and experience to make your special day a truly wonderful one. All weddings at Ras Nungwi are tailor-made with a degree of flexibility and attention to detail only possible at a small boutique property.

All paperwork from registrar to certificate is arranged for you, meaning that you can concentrate on enjoying what is a truly exciting and romantic time. The marriage certificate issued in Zanzibar is recognised worldwide.

A huge range of options are available including delicious canapés, champagne and cocktails from the hotel’s Ubora Restaurant & Bar. Dining choices include candle-lit beach dinners for two or larger celebrations with family and friends. We can also make arrangements for flowers, hair and makeup, photography, spa and beauty treatments, live music and more. Our highly individual approach means that your wedding will be unique and all about you.

We often recommend, subject to budget, that our Ocean Suite be booked for the wedding ceremony and reception. It is luxurious, spacious and private, and also makes for the perfect honeymoon retreat. Another option is to exchange your vows on a traditional sailing dhow before returning to the hotel for a reception on land! Whatever your preference, we are here to make your wedding day a truly special and unique occasion.

Preparing for the new season

Zanzibar’s wet season is well and truly upon us and Ras Nungwi is closed for the months of April and May. A huge amount of maintenance work is being done to refresh and renew the hotel in preparation for our next season.

Notably, the makuti (palm thatch) roofs over the hotel’s main areas and sea view rooms are being rebuilt and freshly thatched and the work that is already completed is beautiful! A lot of skill and manpower is going into this project and its progress is truly a marvel to observe. This level of work is only done every ten years although simple re-thatching is generally done every five years.

Big improvements are being made to our kitchen, whilst the garden, helped by the seasonal rains, is being prepared for our next season.

During the closure, our staff have a chance to take a well-earned break, normally a month in length, taken in two groups. The other month is used for training and helping out with all the essential closed season tasks at the hotel.

We look forward to welcoming you to Ras Nungwi for the new season commencing 1 June 2011.

Integral to the new website is the inclusion of social networking features. In particular, there are now links to our Facebook page, Twitter feed and of course this blog! There is also a new newsletter design and we encourage you to sign up here for regular news from Ras Nungwi.
